The foundation stone for the construction of the Kuri Health Post-Birthing Centre Building at Khaniyabas Rural Municipality, Dhading was laid today in a joint ceremony attended by Constituent Assembly Member Dilman Pakhrin, Chairman of Khaniyabas Rural Municipality Ran Bahadur Tamang, and Counsellor at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, Gitanjali Brandon. The project, funded by the Government of India under the Nepal-India Development Cooperation initiative, aims to enhance healthcare services in the region.
The Kuri Health Post-Birthing Centre is being constructed with NRs. 25.10 million in financial assistance from India. The project, categorised as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP), will include not only the birthing centre but also a guard house, compound wall, canteen block, pathways, and other allied facilities. The foundation-laying ceremony was attended by political representatives, government officials, and social workers, all of whom acknowledged India’s continued developmental assistance to Nepal.
During the event, officials from Khaniyabas Rural Municipality and other stakeholders expressed their appreciation for India’s sustained efforts in supporting Nepal’s social and infrastructural development. The birthing centre is expected to significantly improve maternal and child healthcare services in the region, providing much-needed medical assistance to local communities.
Since 2003, the Government of India has undertaken over 563 HICDPs across Nepal, successfully completing 490 projects in sectors such as education, healthcare, and infrastructure. Among these, 108 projects have been implemented in Bagmati Province alone. Additionally, India has gifted 1,009 ambulances and 300 school buses to various hospitals, health posts, and educational institutions in Nepal, marking these contributions during its Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations. Of these, 15 ambulances and 3 school buses have been allocated to institutions in Dhading.
As close neighbours, India and Nepal continue to engage in extensive multi-sectoral cooperation. The implementation of HICDPs underscores India’s commitment to supporting Nepal’s developmental priorities and improving essential infrastructure, particularly in critical sectors such as healthcare and education. The new health post in Dhading stands as a testament to this enduring partnership, promising better healthcare access for local communities.
