India’s3.54 Crore Boost to Nepal: Foundation Stone Laid for Khamlalung Health Post in Terhathum
In a significant step towards improving healthcare infrastructure in Nepal, the foundation stone for the construction of Khamlalung Health Post Building was laid today at Aathrai Rural Municipality, Terhathum. This event marks a new milestone in the robust bilateral ties between Nepal and India.
Dignitaries Come Together for Healthcare Revolution
The groundbreaking ceremony was jointly led by Ms. Sita Gurung, Hon’ble Member of Parliament from Terhathum’s Constituency-1; Mr. Dil Kumar Pahim, Chairman of Aathrai Rural Municipality; and Shri Avinash Kumar Singh, First Secretary of the Embassy of India in Kathmandu. This project is set to reshape the region’s access to healthcare facilities.
India’s Generous Support Under Nepal-India Development Cooperation
The Government of India has pledged a financial grant of NPR 35.40 million for the construction of the double-storied health post under the ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation’ initiative. The facility will include an emergency ward, maternity ward, general ward, administrative offices, and other essential amenities.
First of Its Kind in Terhathum
This High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) is the first of its kind in Terhathum. It will be executed through Aathrai Rural Municipality and is expected to significantly improve healthcare accessibility for the local population.
Acknowledgment of India’s Developmental Role
Speaking at the event, Hon’ble Member of Parliament Ms. Sita Gurung and other representatives lauded India’s unwavering support in Nepal’s developmental journey. They expressed optimism that this health post would bring tangible improvements to healthcare services in the region.
India’s Developmental Footprint in Nepal
Since 2003, the Government of India has undertaken over 563 HICDPs across Nepal, with 490 of them already completed. Of these, 91 projects are located in Koshi Province alone. Additionally, India has donated 1,009 ambulances and 300 school buses to Nepalese institutions, including 146 ambulances and 48 school buses to Koshi Province.

The foundation of Khamlalung Health Post is a testament to the enduring partnership between India and Nepal. These projects underscore India’s commitment to assisting Nepal in building robust infrastructure in priority sectors, reflecting the deep-rooted cooperation between the two nations.
