Swornim Wagle Seen at Indian Embassy a Day Before Rabi Lamichhane's Arrest

On October 17, 2024, the Indian Embassy in Nepal celebrated the festivals of Dashain, Tihar, and Chhath, symbolizing the cultural unity between India and Nepal. The event was graced by renowned figures from the fields of art, culture, and other notable sectors. The attendees enjoyed traditional Dashain festivities, including swinging on the customary “Ping,” and indulged in a variety of traditional delicacies from both Nepal and India. The celebration served to further strengthen the cultural ties between the two nations.

Among the attendees was Swornim Wagle, the Vice President of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP). Wagle was seen seated at the same table as Indian Ambassador Naveen Srivastava, sparking discussions about his role in fostering strong relations between his party and India.

Interestingly, just a day after this celebration, on October 18, 2024, RSP President Rabi Lamichhane was arrested. Though there is no direct link between the embassy event and Lamichhane's arrest, it has been clarified that the arrest was part of a pre-planned government investigation into cooperative-related issues. However, the timing has fueled speculation around Wagle's potential leadership role, as he is expected to take charge of the party following Lamichhane's arrest.

Wagle has previously faced allegations from former RSP General Secretary Mukul Dhakal, who claimed that Wagle had once requested Indian authorities to support making Rabi Lamichhane the Prime Minister of Nepal. While these allegations remain unproven, Wagle’s presence at the Indian Embassy event and the subsequent arrest of Lamichhane have added a new layer of intrigue to Nepal's political landscape.
