Indian Minister Khattar, Nepal's Minister Khadka Jointly Review Arun-3 HPP Progress, Launch Key Works

Kathmandu/Sankhuwasabha – Continuing his significant two-day visit to Nepal, India's Minister of Power, Housing, and Urban Affairs, Manohar Lal Khattar, today joined Nepal's Minister for Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation, Deepak Khadka, for a crucial site inspection of the Arun-3 Hydropower Project in Sankhuwasabha district.

The joint visit underscores the deepening cooperation between the two nations in the vital energy sector. According to the Indian Embassy in Nepal, the ministers reviewed the ongoing progress of the massive 900 MW project, which is being developed by India's SJVN Limited. They actively discussed ways to resolve any existing bottlenecks hindering the project's timeline and participated in launching the electromechanical works at the powerhouse – a key milestone in the construction phase.

This hands-on inspection follows Minister Khattar's arrival in Kathmandu yesterday, April 21, at the invitation of Minister Khadka. His visit itinerary also included the joint inauguration of sections of the India-assisted Koshi Corridor 220 kV Transmission Line Project and planned discussions for establishing a joint venture for future cross-border transmission lines.

The Arun-3 project is a cornerstone of Nepal-India energy cooperation, expected to significantly boost Nepal's power generation capacity upon completion, facilitating energy trade between the neighbours. Today's joint ministerial engagement at the site signals a strong commitment from both governments to expedite progress and ensure the successful realization of this strategic infrastructure project. Minister Khattar's visit continues tomorrow with scheduled courtesy calls and cultural engagements before his return to India.
