Established in 2002 to commemorate 50 years of India-Nepal economic cooperation, the Golden Jubilee Scholarship Scheme has grown significantly over the years. The program currently benefits 200 Nepali students annually, with over 3,500 students from all 77 districts of Nepal having received scholarships so far. This year, students from 75 districts were selected, including one-third female scholars and three differently-abled students.
Every year, the Government of India provides approximately 1,500 scholarships to Nepali students in fields such as engineering, medicine, dental science, management, commerce, nursing, Ayurveda, dance, theater, and performing arts. These scholarships enable students to study at prestigious institutions in India and support them in pursuing undergraduate, postgraduate, and PhD programs in Nepal as well. Since 2001, nearly 40,000 Nepali students have benefitted from various Indian scholarship initiatives.
The event reaffirmed India's commitment to strengthening Nepal’s human resource development through education and capacity-building programs. Such initiatives continue to foster deep-rooted people-to-people ties, reinforcing the shared progress and prosperity of both nations.
