Kathmandu Metropolis Honors Paralympic Bronze Medalist Palesha Govardhan with NPR 500,000 Cash Prize
In recognition of her historic achievement at the Paris 2024 Paralympics, the Kathmandu Metropolitan City honored para-taekwondo athlete Palesha Govardhan with a cash prize of NPR 500,000. The ceremony, organized by the local government, celebrated Palesha's groundbreaking accomplishment as Nepal's first-ever Paralympic medalist.
The event took place at the Metropolis office, where Mayor Balen Shah presented Palesha with a letter of appreciation, acknowledging her exceptional performance on the global stage. Deputy Mayor Sunita Dangol handed over the check for the cash prize, further cementing the city's pride in Palesha's success.
Several notable figures attended the ceremony, including Metropolitan City Office spokesperson Navin Manandhar, Social Committee Coordinator Ramkumar KC, President of the Taekwondo Association Prakash Shamsher Rana, Olympian Sangina Baidya, and Palesha's parents, Panita and Pradeep Govardhan. The presence of these dignitaries, alongside other sports officials and athletes, highlighted the significance of Palesha's achievement for the entire nation.
Palesha's bronze medal was earned in the Women's K-44 under 57 kg weight category, where she competed last Friday in Paris, France. This victory not only marked a personal triumph for Palesha but also etched her name in the annals of Nepali sports history as a pioneer in Paralympic success. The honor bestowed by Kathmandu Metropolis reflects the widespread admiration and support for her remarkable feat.
