India's 11.3 Million Aid Transforms Bhaktapur School with New Building!

Bhaktapur, Nepal – The newly constructed school building of Shree Mahendra Shanti Secondary School in Suryabinayak Municipality, Bhaktapur, was inaugurated today in a grand ceremony. The building was constructed with financial assistance of NRs. 11.30 million from the Government of India under the ‘Nepal-India Development Cooperation’ framework.

The joint inauguration was performed by Mr. Durlav Thapa Chhetri, Hon’ble Member of Parliament for Bhaktapur Constituency No.2, Mr. Ishwar Bahadur Thapa, Chief of the District Coordination Committee, Ms. Sarita Timsina (Bhattarai), Deputy Mayor of Suryabinayak Municipality, and Shri Avinash Kumar Singh, First Secretary of the Embassy of India, Kathmandu. The event was attended by local political representatives, government officials, social workers, school management committee members, teachers, parents, and students.

The project was taken up as a High Impact Community Development Project (HICDP) and implemented by the District Coordination Committee, Bhaktapur, under an agreement between the Government of India and the Government of Nepal. The triple-storey school building comes equipped with modern facilities to provide better educational infrastructure for the students of Shree Mahendra Shanti Secondary School. This school, established in 1952, is one of the oldest in the district and was upgraded to a secondary school in 1995. Currently, it offers education from Nursery to Grade 12 and serves around 800 students, with 45% of them being girls.

During the ceremony, the distinguished guests highlighted the significance of the continuous developmental support from the Government of India in improving the lives of Nepalese people. They praised India's role in helping enhance education, especially in priority sectors such as infrastructure development.

The newly built facility is expected to create a better learning environment for students and contribute significantly to the overall development of education in the region.

The Nepal-India Development Cooperation initiative has long been a symbol of the close and multifaceted partnership between the two neighboring countries. Through projects like HICDP, the Government of India continues to support Nepal’s efforts to uplift its people by enhancing infrastructure in key areas such as education.
