Indian Minister Oversees Repatriation of Accident Victims, Praises Nepal’s Swift Response
In the aftermath of a tragic road accident in Chitwan, Nepal, that claimed the lives of 27 Indian nationals, India's Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports, Raksha Khadse, arrived in Kathmandu today. During her visit, she met with Nepal’s Home Minister, Narayan Kaji Shrestha, at the Tribhuvan University (TU) Teaching Hospital, where 16 injured Indian citizens are currently receiving treatment.
The accident, which occurred yesterday, involved a bus carrying pilgrims returning from the holy site of Muktinath. The vehicle veered off the road and plunged into a ravine in the Chitwan district, resulting in a high number of casualties. Local authorities, in coordination with rescue teams from both Nepal and India, responded promptly to the incident.
During the meeting, MoS Raksha Khadse expressed her deep appreciation to Home Minister Shrestha and the Government of Nepal for their timely assistance in the relief and rescue operations. "The swift action taken by Nepali authorities was crucial in saving lives and ensuring that those injured received immediate medical care," Khadse stated.
In addition to visiting the injured, MoS Khadse also oversaw the repatriation process of the deceased. The mortal remains of 25 passengers were airlifted from Chitwan to Jalgaon, Maharashtra, via a special Indian Air Force plane. The bodies of two other victims were handed over to the Uttar Pradesh (UP) Government for further arrangements.
The Indian Embassy in Nepal is closely monitoring the condition of the injured citizens at TU Teaching Hospital, ensuring they receive the best possible care. The Embassy has also assured that all necessary measures are being taken to facilitate their early recovery and safe return to India.
This incident has once again highlighted the strong bilateral ties between India and Nepal, particularly in times of crisis. The cooperation between the two nations' governments and the swift action taken by both sides demonstrate the commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of their citizens.
The Indian Embassy's Facebook post, shared earlier today, further emphasized the ongoing efforts to assist the victims and their families. It stated: "Hon. MoS @RakshakhadseBJP also oversaw the repatriation of mortal-remains of 25 passengers which were airlifted from Chitwan to Jalgaon via a special Indian Air Force plane. Mortal-remains of 2 passengers were handed to UP Government #UP #Rahat #Ayukt."
The tragic accident has left both nations in mourning, with condolences pouring in from across India and Nepal. The Indian government has vowed to continue supporting the affected families during this difficult time.
