Today, October 6, 2024, marks the fourth day of Navaratri, dedicated to the worship of Goddess Kushmanda. This day, known as Ashwin Shukla Chaturthi, celebrates the goddess, believed to be the creator of the universe with her radiant smile. Navaratri, a festival honoring nine forms of Goddess Durga, sees each day devoted to a different deity, and today it’s all about the vibrant energy of Goddess Kushmanda.

Worshiping her is said to bring good health, prosperity, and positive energy. Devotees observe special rituals, beginning with purification by bathing and wearing clean clothes. Offerings include fresh garlands, flowers, incense, lamps, fruits, coconuts, and particularly kheer (rice pudding).

Worship Rituals

The idol or image of the goddess is adorned with flowers and garlands. Ganesh puja is performed first, followed by offerings to Kushmanda Devi, including water, rice, flowers, incense, and lamps. Devotees recite mantras, hymns, and perform aarti to seek blessings from the goddess.

Importance of Goddess Kushmanda

Kushmanda Devi, known as the goddess with a cosmic smile, is believed to have created the universe with her laughter. Worshiping her on this day is thought to bring relief from illness, longevity, and positivity in life. She is considered the source of vitality, and her blessings ensure good health, happiness, and abundance.

By the fourth day of Navaratri, the festive excitement is at its peak. Temples across the country are lit up with special prayers, hymns, and devotional songs, while markets are buzzing with preparations for upcoming festivals like Dashain and Tihar.
