Birgunj: After 'Nepal Aaj' continuously published news against the mafia system privatizing the prestigious Hari Khetan Multiple Campus of Birgunj and capturing public property worth billions, a major earthquake has hit the campus administration and the capturing group.

Due to the serial investigative reporting of 'Nepal Aaj', after the misdeeds of Prem Prakash (PP) Khetan, who kept the campus under his control against the law and constitution, came to the surface, the demand for action against him became nationwide. In this way, after the all-round pressure and fear of action increased, PP Khetan has staged a new drama of 'reconstituting' the management committee to protect himself and pull the wool over the government's eyes.

Birth of another illegal committee from an illegal committee

In the case of community campuses, under the rules made by Tribhuvan University and the process of forming the management committee, there is a clear provision that the management committee of the campus must be formally selected by the 'Campus Assembly'.

However, flouting all these legal processes and university rules, Prem Prakash Khetan has formed an illegal management committee in his own arbitrary manner. To escape action, the fact has emerged that he has plotted to continue the campus capture from behind the scenes by showing himself stepping down from the post of chairman and making another person the chairman.

According to the news broadcast by an online media and the notice issued by the campus, the meeting of the campus management committee said to have been held on Jestha 16, 2083, has selected new officials and members in a so-called 'unanimous' manner.

  • Chairman: Dr. Ram Awatar Khetan (Leadership to another Khetan instead of Prem Prakash)
  • Vice Chairman: Hari Prasad Gautam
  • Treasurer: Suresh Kumar Rungta
  • Members: Bed Bahadur Karki, Mrs. Barjit Kaur, and Kishori Rai
  • Advisor: Jay Prakash Khetan

The campus administration has issued a notice to teachers, staff, students, and parents with a ridiculous claim that this newly formed committee will play an important role in the educational, administrative, and physical development of the campus. However, stakeholders have outright rejected it, saying that another committee set up by an illegal committee will not develop the institution but will only 'protect the loot'.

Along with the news impact of 'Nepal Aaj', conscious citizens and journalists of Birgunj have also started strongly opposing this illegal step. Local journalist of Birgunj, Ritesh Tripathi, writing a strong comment on the social network Facebook, said:

"How can another committee reconstituted by an illegal management committee be legal? Those who have captured Hari Khetan Multiple Campus are trying to cover up their mistakes by looking for characters with a slightly better image. It is time for the youth to unite and come forward to save this institution."

This issue raised by 'Nepal Aaj' has now reached the public level. Flouting the law and against the rules of Tribhuvan University, whether the regulatory body will recognize this new management committee made from the pocket or cancel it and take action against the guilty remains to be seen. However, the voice to destroy this new 'cover' of the mafias to save the historic property of Birgunj has become even louder.
