Prime Minister of Nepal Balendra Shah has expressed deep sorrow over the recent casualties and violence in Sunsari, committing to swift justice, compensation for affected families, and legal action against those found responsible.
Addressing the public, Prime Minister Shah acknowledged that what began as an ordinary dispute in Sunsari escalated rapidly due to heightened emotional distress, leading to tragic losses of life and injuries. He noted that the situation had severely disrupted social cohesion, creating an atmosphere of division and mutual apprehension within the community.
Speaking both in his official capacity as Prime Minister and as a citizen, Shah extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased and wished for the speedy recovery of those injured. He stated that he empathizes with the grief of the victims' families and pledged that the government would deploy its full authority to deliver tangible results as rapidly as possible.
The Prime Minister explicitly noted that although the government was active from the outset, initial measures proved insufficient. He highlighted that casualties and injuries resulted from gunfire by security personnel, emphasizing that such loss caused by state forces cannot be treated as a routine matter. Shah confirmed that a formal investigation has already been initiated to ensure strict legal accountability for all guilty parties.
Urging the public to exercise emotional restraint, Shah called on citizens to cast aside anger, fear, and urges for retaliation.
