Police in Nepal have taken key suspects into custody after the Master of Business Studies first semester examination paper under Tribhuvan University's Faculty of Management was leaked via WhatsApp shortly after the test began last Friday. Minister of Education and Sports Sasmit Pokharel stated that immediate coordination with law enforcement led to the swift arrests within 24 hours of the incident.
Following the leak, Minister Pokharel contacted Inspector General of Nepal Police Dan Bahadur Karki to initiate an urgent investigation. The Central Investigation Bureau and the Cyber Bureau were subsequently deployed to trace the origin of the digital breach and analyze messaging groups linked to the leak.
Law enforcement officers succeeded in identifying and detaining the main accused through the analysis of digital evidence and WhatsApp group activity. Minister Pokharel emphasized that the investigation remains active and declared that anyone found involved in the compromise must face action according to the law.
Recognizing the threat to institutional credibility and the future of thousands of students, the Dean's Office of the Faculty of Management at Tribhuvan University has formed a three-member investigation committee. Headed by Prof. Dr. Achyut Gyawali, the panel is tasked with probing the root causes of the leak, identifying security vulnerabilities, and submitting a report with recommended safeguards.
Minister Pokharel stated that the incident serves as a critical opportunity to examine internal systemic weaknesses rather than treating it merely as an isolated criminal act. The Ministry of Education and Sports committed to implementing necessary legal and institutional reforms to ensure public trust, transparency, and fairness for honest examinees in future university assessments.
