A 25-year-old man who attempted self-immolation in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu, has passed away during treatment. The deceased has been identified as Ganesh Nepali, a resident of Soru Rural Municipality-1 in Mugu district. He was undergoing treatment at Bir Hospital after sustaining severe burn injuries covering approximately 60 percent of his body.
Spokesperson for the Kathmandu Police Range, Pawan Bhattarai, stated that Nepali passed away during the course of his treatment. However, the official confirmation from the hospital administration is still pending.
According to Dr. Piyush Dahal, Coordinator of the Plastic Surgery Department at Bir Hospital, the fire caused severe damage to critical areas of the patient's body, including his face, head, and neck. Due to immediate respiratory complications upon arrival at the hospital, medical personnel performed intubation in the emergency room and placed him on ventilator support to begin treatment.
A specialized 21-member medical team was mobilized for his treatment under the leadership of Dr. Piyush Dahal. The team included Unit Chief Dr. Apar Lamichhane, Critical Care Specialist Dr. Nirman Gyawali, Anaesthetist Jayaprakash Thakur, Prof. Dr. Rabiram Shrestha, and nursing staff.
Nepali had attempted self-immolation on Thursday by dousing himself with petrol in front of the Department of Passports located in Tripureshwor, Kathmandu. Following the incident, he was immediately rescued and rushed to Bir Hospital for emergency medical intervention.
