The foundation stones for the construction of new school buildings at Shree Janak Secondary School and Shree Janhit Secondary School in Namobuddha Municipality, Kavrepalanchowk, were laid on August 3, 2026. The ceremonies were jointly conducted by Mr. Narayan Singh, First Secretary at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu; Mr. Kunsang Lama, Mayor of Namobuddha Municipality; and Mr. Laxmi Prasad Bhattarai, Project Director of the Central Level Project Implementation Unit under the Ministry of Education and Sports, Government of Nepal. The events were attended by Government of Nepal officials, educators, students, media representatives, and local stakeholders.
Both infrastructure projects are being executed under the Government of India's post-earthquake reconstruction grant assistance programme. The construction at Shree Janak Secondary School, located in Ward No. 4, carries an estimated cost of NRs. 6.35 crore and will comprise two blocks featuring 18 classrooms, science laboratories, a library, and administrative offices. Meanwhile, the project at Shree Janhit Secondary School carries an estimated cost of NPR 5.50 crore and includes two blocks housing seven classrooms, science laboratories, administrative offices, and dedicated sanitation facilities.
During the events, Project Director Laxmi Prasad Bhattarai expressed gratitude and highlighted the technical and financial support provided by the Government of India for rebuilding educational infrastructure in Nepal. Mayor Kunsang Lama appreciated the ongoing development assistance, emphasizing that upgrading school facilities is essential to significantly enhance the learning environment for local students and educators. First Secretary Narayan Singh noted that the ceremony reflects the enduring development partnership between India and Nepal, under which India has supported the reconstruction of 85 educational institutions, 133 health facilities, 30 cultural heritage sites, and 50,000 private houses across Nepal.
These initiatives aim to complement the efforts of the Government of Nepal in restoring disaster-affected infrastructure and upgrading long-term educational facilities across the region.
